Today is a very special day for us as we celebrate 2 years in existence.
It took place in a small tea shop in Royal Oak with 4 musicians who weren’t sure where this was going to go but what was born was Rare Standard. This wasn’t originally the name of the group. In the beginning, the group was called the “Tim Gay Quartet.” Personally, I hated this name as I don’t want this to be something that I feel is just me. There are 3 other musicians on stage that contribute to this and they deserve to be acknowledged. So how did the name “Rare Standard” come up? This is going to sound really cheesy… it just came to me. It didn’t sit too well with everyone at first but I’m glad it stuck. Everyone I’ve talked to absolutely LOVES the name and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
A lot has happened in 2 years. People have come and gone, the direction has changed a few times but now there is a line-up that I am extremely happy about and we’ve got a clear focus on what we want. We’ve also expanded our internet presence to what will soon be the new website. We’ve played in at least 1 festival every summer and look to do more this year. Yet, there’s still so much more to do and so far to go but it’s totally exciting.
Personally, I think I can speak for everyone in the group that we are grateful to have the fan base and support from the musicians that we have. We wouldn’t be anywhere without you. We look forward to continue to bring you more great music and shows. Until then, keep supporting live music and look out for our album. See you at the show!
